Vaser Liposuction For those with Lipedema, the distribution of painful fat deposits can be treated with a new liposuction technique that can be used alone or in combination with the WAL and PAL techniques that have been so successful in helping to reduce the symptoms associated with Lipedema.   Marcia V. Byrd, M.D., the Medical Director at the Lipedema Surgery Center in Roswell, Georgia, believes the VASER liposuction, in conjuntion with WAL and PAL liposuction may be an integral component of the solution and is part of her unique process in the treatment of lipedema.

The VASER liposuction system works as a customizable body sculptor to eliminate fat and smooth the skin’s surface, helping reduce the look of fat pockets and nodules under the skin.  This minimally-invasive liposuction procedure uses ultrasound waves to selectively break up small or large areas of fat.  It works particularly well when used to further define areas such as the ankles and knees following removal of larger areas of fat with the WAL and PAL techniques. Downtime following the procedure is significantly less than traditional liposuction because VASER technology breaks up fat while preserving important tissues, which promotes smooth results and rapid healing.

VASER Liposuction Treatment Areas

Patients have experienced great success after treatment in all of the following areas:

  • Buttocks and thighs
  • Arms and lower back
  • Knees, calves and ankles
  • Hips

Vaser Liposuction offers several advantages over traditional liposuction:

  • Less trauma to the surrounding tissues: The ultrasound technology used in Vaser Liposuction is more selective, causing minimal damage to blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue.
  • Reduced swelling and bruising: The precise nature of Vaser Liposuction results in less swelling and bruising compared to traditional liposuction.
  • Faster recovery: Patients undergoing Vaser Liposuction typically experience a faster recovery period than those who have undergone traditional liposuction.

ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

VASER liposuction is performed in-office under local anesthesia. First, the area to be reshaped is filled with a tumescent saline solution. Next, a small probe transmits the ultrasound energy to break up and dislodge fat. A thin tube called a cannula, removes the dislodged fat through a gentle suction process. Dr. Byrd will discuss with you how much fat will be removed during your procedure.  During a single procedure, multiple body areas can be treated. Although there are limits to the amount of fat that can be removed, Dr. Byrd can assist you with your decision about potential areas for further definition, anticipated results, limitations and the recovery process.

RESULTS AND RECOVERY

Noticeable results vary according to the amount of fat removed, the number of areas treated, and other factors. Many patients report that they see results immediately after the procedure with final results visible three to four months after the procedure. Dr. Byrd can help you establish realistic expectations.
